***A word about small hp motors.***

I do not try to sell many motors below 15hp because frankly, the cost of parts and labor to repair them to a level I feel is satisfactory for reliable service makes it prohibitive for me to continue offering them for sale and still turn any sort of profit.  On smaller motors, I am losing money to sell them.  In the off-season, I work on a dozen or so of these motors as a courtesy to customers to have for availability in the spring.  I will continue to stock parts and offer full repair services for these small motors.  As of 9/17, I am no longer selling any used motors below 7.5hp dating prior to 1980.  If you call, I may have a random unit available below this HP rating.

6-8hp motors offer more power than their smaller counterparts and can plane out small 12-14' aluminum boats, and are ideal for Jon/flat bottom boats.  They offer full gear shift and most include thermostatically controlled cooling.  Produced 1966-2006.

Here is a video I captured from The History Channel's "Modern Marvels," featuring a 1967 6hp Evinrude Fisherman on a kit boat, moving right along at 20mph!  Looks like a lot of fun.  Runner Outboards supplies these light weight 2-strokes to several mini-racer customers each year, just usually not this small of a HP!

9.5hp motors have a religious following, keep running, & are extremely popular.  They are the first compact outboard offering robust features with power in a small package, and the 2nd generation of this motor class, revised from the older 10hp motors produced up to 1963.  They were made specifically for fishermen & have been dubbed "turtle motors," amongst other regional slang terms.  Produced 1964-1973.  back to top
